AUDITION NOTICE


Arsenic and Old Lace

Auditions: Monday-Tuesday, August 28-29 from 6-9pm at the Granbury Opera House (133 E. Pearl Street, Granbury, Texas 76048 – please enter through the artists entrance at the back of the building)

Callbacks: Saturday, September 2 from 10am-1pm at the Granbury Opera House

Audition Requirements:

  • Please come prepared with a headshot and resume.
  • You must note ALL conflicts for rehearsals and performances on the evening of your auditions.
  • The audition will consist of a cold reading from the script.

Rehearsals will begin Monday, September 18.

Typically, rehearsals will be Monday-Thursday from 7-10pm and Saturday from 9am-1pm.  Tech Week rehearsals on October 16-19 will be Monday-Thursday from 6-10pm.  There may be a Que to Que rehearsal on October 14-15.

The production runs from October 20-November 5 with shows on Fridays at 7:30pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 7:30pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

Additional shows on Thursday and Sunday nights are a possibility depending on ticket sales.

Actor stipends are available for some roles.

Housing is available upon request.

PRODUCTION DESCRIPTION

We meet the charming and innocent ladies who populate their cellar with the remains of socially and religiously “acceptable” roomers; the antics of their nephew who thinks he is Teddy Roosevelt; and the activities of the other nephew—these require no further description or amplification here.

CHARACTER LISTING

Abby Brewster – A darling lady in her sixties or early seventies who poisons elderly men, Abby is the sister of Martha and aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.

Martha Brewster – A sweet elderly woman with Victorian charm who poisons elderly men, Martha is the sister of Abby and an aunt to Teddy, Jonathan, and Mortimer.

Elaine Harper – An attractive girl in her twenties and Mortimer’s fiancée, Elaine is the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Harper. She is surprisingly wise in the ways of the world for a minister’s daughter.

Mortimer Brewster – Nephew of Abby and Martha, Mortimer is a drama critic who is engaged to Elaine. A good-hearted cynic who is about to have his world turned upside down.

Teddy Brewster – Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Teddy is a man in his forties who thinks that he is Theodore Roosevelt.

Officer O’Hara – A police officer, O’Hara is a would-be playwright who pesters Mortimer to read his play.

Jonathan Brewster – Nephew of Abby and Martha Brewster, Jonathan is a psychopath who has numerous murders to his credit and no scruples whatsoever. I bit oversensitive to his “new” appearance.

Dr. Einstein – A plastic surgeon and an alcoholic in his fifties, he has changed Jonathan’s face three times, with his most recent work resulting in a Boris Karloff resemblance.

The Rev. Dr. Harper – Minister and father of Elaine. A bit pompous and protective, very ministerial in his manner.

Officer Brophy – A flatfoot Brooklyn cop with the usual charm of a police officer.

Lieutenant Rooney – A tough and dominating police officer.

Mr. Gibbs – A man who wishes to rent a room from the Brewster sisters.

Mr. Witherspoon – The superintendent of Happy Dale Sanitarium.
