Fall 2017 Theatre Academy Course Descriptions


To register for classes, go to our Academy Registration Page and select the class/classes you are interested in taking this Fall.  Our Fall semester begins September 11th and runs through December 15th. There will be no classes during the holidays. If area schools are out, then we will not have class.  All Academy classes are $150/student with a 50% discount available for those registering siblings or for those registering for more than one class. Once we have received your submission, we will calculate your total amount due and send you the link to our PayPal account to process payment! MONDAYS:

Class: Beginning Jazz
Ages: 7 – 18
Time: 4:00 – 4:50pm
Instructor: Jadie Phelps
Description: An introduction to the basics of jazz dance technique! In this class, students will learn a series of jazz terminology and combinations. By the end of the semester, students will know the fundamentals of jazz. *For class, please wear modest clothing comfortable enough to move in. Jazz shoes are preferred. No flip flops please.

Class: Beginning Musical Theatre Dance

Age: 7 – 18
Time: 5:00 – 5:50pm
Instructor: Jadie Phelps
Description: This class is for students who are new and beginning their musical theatre journey.  In this class, students will learn different styles of musical theatre combinations from Broadway hits such as Annie, The Lion King, Hamilton, and many more! Just starting out? We welcome everyone to come and join the fun! *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement. No flip flops please.

Class: Adult Acting Workshop

Age: 18 & up
Time: 5:30 – 7pm
Instructor: Don Shook
Description: Students in The Actors’ Workshop will become better performers through the principles of imagination, controlled release of inhibitions, and common sense.  Students work on techniques for developing individual talents without trying to “sacrifice the personality in lieu of the method.” With individual attention applied to individual abilities, the student and teacher attempt to discover and emphasize what works and diminish what doesn’t. Monologues, scene study, voice and articulation, character development, improvisation and audition techniques are incorporated to help make each student the best performer they can be.

Class: Adult Murder Mystery Theatre Acting Workshop
Age: 18 & up
Time: 7:00 – 8pm

Description: This ensemble actors will rehearse and learn Murder Mystery scripts to be
performed throughout the semester at contracted locations.

Class: Intermediate/Advanced Musical Theatre Dance
Age: 7-18
Time: 6:00 – 6:50pm
Instructor: Domanick Hubbard
Description: This class is for more experienced musical theatre students. This class is for students who would like to further their musical theatre dance experience and help prepare for musical auditions. In this class, students will learn different style of musical theatre combinations from Broadway and upcoming show such as HamiltonFootloose, Young Frankenstein, and many more! Be prepared to work hard and have a great time! *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement. No flip flops, please.

TUESDAYS:

Class: Kids Acting Company
Age: 7 – 12
Time: 4:00 – 5:50pm
Instructor: Emily Warwick & Joshua Davis
Description: This company of students will study the art of acting through monologues and scenes. Students will learn and practice the physical, vocal, and imaginative skills necessary for the stage. We welcome students from all acting levels and experiences. Students should be prepared to challenge themselves while also discovering the joys of acting. *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement. No flip flops, please.

Class: “Broadway Bound” Musical Theatre for Kids
Age: 6 – 12
Time: 5:00 – 5:50pm
Instructor: Amanda Willams-Ware
Description: All experience levels welcome! This class will prepare you to become a triple-threat on the stage. Students will be given the opportunity to act, dance, and sing in solo, duet, and ensemble numbers. This is the beginning process to be “Broadway Bound.” Come energized and ready to grow as a performer! *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement. No flip flops, please.

Class: Intermediate/Advanced Tap

Age:  7 – 18
Time: 6:00 – 6:50pm

Description: Do you have experience in tap and want to further your tap knowledge? Then this class is the one for you. Students will continue to learn tap skills/techniques, studying the more advanced steps. They will learn more terminology, harder combinations and be pushed to become a better tapper. Come enjoy this fun, exhilarating and challenging class.

Class: Broadway Babies Musical Theatre
Age: 4 – 6
Time: 4:00 – 4:50pm
Instructor: Faith Melton & Taylor Donaldson
Description: This class is for the future Broadway stars! Students will learn the beginning basics of musical theatre. This class is designed to teach and introduce the fundamentals of musical theatre. These students will begin the process of learning how to perform in front of an audience. Each student will have the opportunity to gain confidence, character, and growth through scenes, games, and activities. *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement.

Class: Young Actors Studio
Age: 13 – 18
Time: 4:00 – 4:50pm
Instructor: Amanda Williams-Ware
Description: Calling young actors of all levels! This class will provide the opportunity for students to be pushed out their comfort zones, try new things, and mold their craft. Students will work on growth in their acting abilities through monologues, scenes, and ACTivities.
Be ready to work, have fun, and challenge yourself! *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement.

Class: Broadway Babies Dance
Age: 4-6

Instructor: Faith Melton
Description: Students will learn the basics of all styles of dance in the theatre. This class will provide the fundamentals of ballet, jazz, and musical theatre. Class: “Broadway Bound” Musical Theatre for Young Adults
Age: 12-18
Time: 5:00 – 5:50pm
Instructor: Domanick Hubbard
Description: Accepting all levels of talent, this class will prepare you to become a triple-threat on the stage. Students will be given the opportunity to act, dance, and sing in solo, duet, and ensemble numbers. This is the next step to becoming “Broadway Bound.” Come enjoy this fun and judgment free environment. You will leave this class with more knowledge and experience as a musical theatre performer. *For class, students should wear clothes appropriate for movement. No flip flop, please.

Class: “Broadway Bound” Musical Theatre for Adults

Age: 18 & up
Time: 6:00 – 6:50pm
Instructor: Michael Childs
Description: All levels of talent and experience welcome. This class is geared toward furthering your abilities as a triple-threat performer. Students will be given the opportunity to perform in solo, duet, and ensemble numbers. Working with one of the best in the DFW musical theatre profession, students will be exposed to a wider variety of material for their repertoire and a better understanding of their selves as an artist. This class is sure to be fun, challenging, and judgement free. You do not want to pass up this opportunity!

THURSDAYS:

Class: Intermediate/Advanced Jazz
Age: 7 – 18
Time: 5:00 – 5:50pm
Instructor: Brittany Jenkins
Description: Continuing the knowledge of jazz dance technique, this class will offer students the opportunity to learn a series of more difficult jazz combinations and skills. Students will be taking the necessary steps in order to become a more advanced jazz dancer. Enroll in this class if you are ready to perform to the top of your ability. This class is destined to be outrageously fun and challenging. *For class, please wear modest clothing comfortable enough to move in. Jazz shoes are preferred. No flip flops, please.

Class: Adult Tap

Age: 18 & up
Time: 5:00 – 5:50pm

Description: This class welcomes tappers of all levels wishing to further their knowledge. Students will learn tap skills/techniques, terminology, and combinations to become a better tapper. If you have experience, this class will be sure to challenge you. If you don’t, it will provide a pace for you to learn from the beginning. Enroll if you want to take a fun and exhilarating class. *For class, please wear modest clothing comfortable enough to move in. Tap shoes are preferred.

Class: Beginning Tap

Age: 7 to 18

Description: This class is for students just starting to tap. Students will learn the basic tap techniques, terminology, and combinations. Little to no tap experience? This class is perfect for you! The Beginning Tap class will be a great starting place for you to begin. Enroll if you want to be a tapper while having fun! *For class, please wear modest clothing comfortable enough to move in. Tap shoes are preferred.

Class: Adult Musical Theatre Dance
Age: 18 & up
Time: 6:00 – 6:50pm

Description: This class is designed for all levels of performers either starting or continuing their path in dance for musical theatre. Students will dance to some of the greatest and most popular musical numbers. This also will prepare students for auditions at GTC and locals musicals. This class will be a comfortable and loving environment while students develop stage confidence, self-expression, coordination, and dance vocabulary!
FRIDAYS:

Class: Dance Technique
Age: 8 & up
Time: 4:00-4:50
Instructor: Jadie Phelps
Description: Need to become a more technical dancer? This class is specifically designed to help strengthen your techniques in dance. Students will learn the proper skills to become more flexible, better at turning, stronger in their leaps, and many other forms of technique. This class will be very focused on each student’s ability, making every individual a stronger dancer.

Class: Contemporary Dance
Age: 8 & up
Time: 5:00-5:50
Instructor: Brittany Jenkins
Description: This will be a specialty class for those who want to experience a new style of dance. This class will focus on telling stories through the body and interpreting songs through dance. Open to all levels, if you just want a place to release and get your mind off of things, this is the class for you. You will go through a series of movement, and learns how to express yourself through this style of dance. If you come with an open heart and mind, this class will be one of the most amazing experiences.

Class: Hip-Hop
Age: 8 & up
Time: 6:00 – 6:50pm
Instructor: Domanick Hubbard
Description: If you want to sweat, challenge yourself, become a better hip-hop dancer or just want to have fun, then you need to sign up for this class. In this class, you will learn a series of combinations, dances and hip-hop moves. You will dance to hits from Michael Jackson, Imagine Dragons, Beyoncé and many more. Come get your cardio on in one of the most fun environments. Have no experience? No worries, this class is all about having a good time, so join us!
